Uk public liability

Uk public liability can be expressed in many different forms. The most obvious is a tradesman injuring a member of the public during his work. For example, a plumber may take his toolbox into a customer's property to do some work. It is left on the floor while working and the customer comes in and trips over the box injuring themselves. The contractor is liable for the injury caused as the toolbox belongs to them and the customer would make a claim for their inconvenience as appropriate.

Another type of UK public liability which is maybe just as obvious is a tradesman causing damage to property belonging to the public. Once again with a similar example as above, the tradesman may not fit a piece of pipework properly and it leaks and floods the property. The contractor is liable for the damage caused and the property owner would seek compensation from them.

The injury or damage is not just related to the customer, it could be a member of the public and/or their property that has nothing to do with the job that the contractor is performing that is involved in an incident. In the UK, public liability is forever present in every day life.
